Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch told he has new undroppable as established star fights for place

Leeds United are not blessed with an abundance of wide options at present. Jesse Marsch will be sweating on the fitness of Crysensio Summerville after seeing the Dutchman hobble out of the 2-1 win over Elche in midweek.

Summerville was in a rich vein of form before the World Cup break, finding the back of the net with the type of regularity that lifts a whole side mentally as well as up the league ladder too. With Luis Sinisterra still recovering from a tear picked up before the Premier League's pause, it leaves Marsch with Jack Harrison as the only fit winger at present.

The good news is, with a touch of luck both Sinisterra and Summerville could be back on the field for the Manchester City game on December 28. And if not, it shouldn't be long after that as Leeds begin to battle on two fronts with their FA Cup challenge also due to start in January away at Cardiff City.

When the games do resume, Marsch needs to make a call between Harrison and Sinisterra as to who plays on the opposite wing to Summerville, that's according to former Leeds man Noel Whelan, who has backed Summerville to be one of the first names on Marsch's team sheet.

"In terms of the biggest dilemma for Jesse Marsch, it’s the wide attacking areas. You’ve got to look at the form before the break," Whelan told Football Insider.

“Summerville scored four on the bounce, so he’ll be in a good place. Rodrigo is the top scorer, he scored in the last game. But the other side, that’s up for grabs. Harrison and Sinisterra have got to fight in these friendlies to be included. Summerville has done enough to keep his place.”
