Leeds United fans have the best away following in the country, according to results from a new online poll.
Give Me Sport asked football followers to vote, and from over 6000 responses Leeds emphatically came out on top.
United’s away allocation tends to sell out most weeks, while the vociferous support in the stands and in away concourses has often gone viral social media.
For example, heads were turned when 8,000 Leeds fans made the journey to The Emirates in the third round FA Cup clash with Arsenal back in January.
A total of 24% of responders voted the Whites’ support as the best in the country, twice as many as Manchester United’s, in second place.
Newcastle United’s away following received 10% of the vote, while Liverpool, Aston Villa and Sunderland finished fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.
This season, Leeds United currently have the highest average away attendance in the Championship with 2,966, one of only three clubs in the division to register an average of over 2,000 away fans for each game.
Sheffield Wednesday are second in terms of away support, averaging 2593, with West Bromwich Albion in third with an average of 2068 fans per away day.
Before the Championship season was suspended, Leeds were scheduled to make the 470-mile round trip to Cardiff, one of five remaining away trips.
Currently top of the second tier, supporters will no doubt be hoping that next season brings a new set of destinations to visit, with Anfield, Old Trafford and Tottenham’s billion-pound new stadium on the list of Premier League grounds.
