Leeds United are hoping to repeat Alife McCalmont success with important transfer decisions

Leeds United will be running the rule over their squad in the following months ahead of the new season.

The Whites are keen to improve on last year's ninth-placed finish and will bolster accordingly in the transfer market.

A new season marks the chance for those on the fringes to earn themself a place in Marcelo Bielsa's squad for the new season.

As always, there will be some that don't quite make the grade and their development may be better served with game time elsewhere.

With that in mind, LeedsLive analyses the youngsters that could be set for a loan move next year.

Joe Gelhardt

After netting 11 goals in 16 Premier League 2 matches, the next step for Gelhardt is regular first-team football.

He's been on the fringes of a few matchday squads with the first team but at 18, Premier League football might come too soon.

A move into the EFL could help battle-harden the talented attacker, who enjoyed Championship game time whilst at Wigan Athletic.

Sam Greenwood

Like his partner in crime, Gelhardt, it's been a debut season to remember for Greenwood.

The former Arsenal starlet has managed 12 goals from 18 games and will no doubt attract EFL interest, as a result.

Cardiff City were amongst the clubs enquiring about Greenwood in the January window but Leeds decided to keep him at Thorp Arch to further his development.

Alife McCalmont

A League One move seems the next likely step for McCalmont after enjoying his time with Oldham Athletic in League Two.

The central midfielder netted some eye-catching goals amongst the eight he struck in the league for the Latics.

McCalmont is thought to be highly rated by Bielsa, who may even integrate him into the squad next year.

If not, a third-tier loan move makes sense.

Ryan Edmondson

Things didn't really work out last season for Edmondson, in two separate loan spells.

The striker scored two goals north of the border at Aberdeen before Christmas, before netting the same tally for Northampton Town as they were relegated to League Two.

To get his confidence back up, a drop to the fourth-tier could be best for his development after several injury setbacks.

Robbie Gotts

After struggling for regular minutes on loan at Lincoln City, Gotts switched to Salford City mid-season.

Bielsa is a massive fan of the midfielder, who made his debut for Leeds in the FA Cup against Arsenal in January 2020.

Gotts made 23 appearances for Salford, scoring three times and after catching the eye, he'll fancy another stab in League One if he's loaned out once again.
