Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion promoted as Bristol City slip up - How the table should stand

In an alternative world, all eyes would be on the final Championship games of the season this weekend.

Bristol City were due to face Preston North End in their last game of the season, in a game that could well have been a winner-takes-all clash for the play-off places.

Yet we're unlikely to find out who is in the play-offs - or even if there are play-offs - for some months to come due to the coronavirus shutdown.

One Saturday afternoon institution, however, has pressed on, even in the face of no football.

The Pools Panel have continued to predict the results of matches that were due to be held, with a group of pundits coming together to decide most of the results in the Championships.

So, in their expert opinion, would there have been anything riding on the Robins' final game?

For Preston there would have been, but unfortunately not for City.

The Robins were predicted to win just one of their postponed matches - away to Blackburn Rovers - with five draws causing them to slip down to 10th.

Those results would mean City would be eight points off sixth-placed Preston going into the final match.

Preston would be one point ahead of an out-of-form Brentford side in the race for the play-offs, with Millwall being the surprise qualified following an excellent run.

Leeds United and West Brom would have both won promotion but, with just a point separating them, they would have to fight it out for the title on the final day.

Fulham and Nottingham Forest would have booked their place in the play-off places.

At the other end of the table, Barnsley would have been relegated, but Charlton Athletic, Luton Town and Hull City would be looking to avoid the final two spots in the drop zone on the last day of the season.

Bristol City vs Sheffield Wednesday - Score draw

Nottingham Forest vs Bristol City - No score draw
