Leeds United and the two teams tipped to seal Premier League promotion

English football's three-month break will not prevent Leeds United from sealing promotion to the Premier League.

That's the view of former West Ham United and Norwich City striker Dean Ashton.

The Whites, who are top of the Championship table, return to action on Sunday afternoon against Cardiff City as they look to take another step towards clinching promotion.

Any fears of being affected by UK lockdown has been dismissed by Ashton who has also predicted the two teams he expects to go up with Marcelo Bielsa's side.

"I think, to be honest, with the break that we have had, it really does play into the top two’s hands in terms of Leeds - Bielsa has his team and he has been ahead of the game," Ashton told Quest.

"They’ve already felt, right from the start, even ahead of government lockdown, they felt football would come back so they have been right on top of their players with daily checks and weight checks, keeping them at a high level.

"It wouldn’t surprise me at all if they flew when they get back and were too strong for teams.

"With West Brom, I think with coming back so quickly, having the extra substitutions - more than ever - it’s going to be about your squad.

"I Look at their squad and their strength in depth, and to be able to bring in the quality towards the end of games when other sides maybe haven’t got that - and players are going to tire - West Brom look really strong for me.

"So, them two will sail into the Premier League and it will be down to others to really scrap for the playoff places.

"Again, I think I would have to go with the strength in depth of Fulham.

"I think the strength in depth they have got, being able to use that and rotate - I know they have got a tough fixture list, but I think that could benefit them to beat teams around them and be able to go up."
