Leeds United and Rangers handed boosts over £12m Bristol City flop

Leeds United could still land Ryan Kent this summer.

The winger, who flopped on loan at Bristol City in the second half of the 2017/18 season to such an extent that the Robins were fined for not playing him enough, is in high demand this summer.

After his poor spell at City, parent club Liverpool sent him out on loan to Rangers last season and he had a lot more success at Ibrox than he did at Ashton Gate.

It means that the Gers and Leeds both want to sign the 22-year-old on loan.

Jurgen Klopp has shot down any talk of Kent leaving Anfield on a temporary basis again, however.

"His time is over for loans," Klopp said after his side's pre-season defeat by Napoli at Murrayfield earlier this month.

"At the age he is now, he needs to find a place where he can settle. We will see what happens but a loan is not planned."

Yet Leeds Live report that sources close to Kent still believe the player could depart on loan again this summer.

The Reds' asking price is believed to be £12m, but that is too much for Kent's suitors to be able to afford - especially so late in the transfer window.

It means that Liverpool may be willing to let Kent leave as a last resort in order to keep his game time up.

If that is the case, Rangers would hold the upper hand, due to the fact their transfer window closes on September 2, almost four weeks after the Championship window shuts next week on August 8.

Whatever happens, it is unlikely that Kent will be taking to the field against the Robins this weekend when they open their season against Leeds on Sunday.
