Leeds United and Nottingham Forest dealt blows in chase for £5m former Bristol City attacker

Luke Freeman is set to remain at Sheffield United for the second half of the season.

The former Bristol City attacker moved from QPR to the newly-promoted Premier League Blades in the summer for a fee believed to be £5m.

Yet he has struggled for regular game time at Sheffield United this season, making just nine league appearances in the top flight and failing to score.

It led to interest this month from Leeds United and Nottingham Forest, both of whom were keen to bolster their squad with the former Robins attacker.

It was unclear whether the duo's interest was in loaning the attacker or signing him on a permanent basis, but it was reported that Sheffield United were keen to bring someone in before they were willing to let Freeman leave.

Yet the Sun's Alan Nixon has reported that, to the disappointment of a couple of clubs, Freeman will be staying at the Blades.

Freeman's move to Sheffield United has not been a success so far, but he became one of the most consistent attackers in the Championship during his time with the Robins and QPR.

The Robins signed Freeman, now 27, from Stevenage in 2014 and he played 105 times for the club, scoring 10 goals.

Yet he departed two-and-a-half years later, joining QPR due to a contract dispute with the Robins.
