Leeds United and Man United issue joint statement following 'unacceptable' chants at Elland Road

Leeds United and Manchester United have issued a joint club statement after distasteful chanting was heard from both sets of supporters at Elland Road. Manchester United ran away as 2-0 winners over the Whites but a lot of the post-match focus on social media centred around the supporters.

The two clubs share one of English football's fiercest rivalries and the contest was shrouded in controversy at the full-time whistle. Back-to-back contests against the Red Devils in the Premier League saw tensions spill over from the terraces midway through the first half.

In a brief post on their website, Leeds condemned any songs regarding "historical tragedies" at the game. The statement read: "Both clubs strongly condemn chanting from both sets of fans regarding historic tragedies at today’s game.
