Leeds United and Arsenal have issued statements condemning "vile abuse" directed towards Ezgjan Alioski and Nicolas Pepe on social media following Sunday's Premier League clash.
Gunners winger Pepe was sent off for headbutting Leeds man Alioski after the pair clashed during the goalless draw at Elland Road.
The incident happened off the ball but referee Anthony Taylor brandished a red card following a VAR review.
After the match, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta blasted Pepe's actions as "unacceptable".
"Considering how early we got Pepe sent off we have to take it (the draw)," said Arteta.
"I never like a draw but in the circumstances, it's a point. It is unacceptable.
"The first half there were two different periods. The game broke a bit, we started to give the ball away and led to them having the space to break.
"The second half it was a matter of defending well and staying patient and using the pace of our players in the space they were leaving."
Sky Sports pundit Patrice Evra, however, was not too impressed by Alioski's reaction.
“I’m disappointed. It came from frustration. You can see Pepe isn’t happy," Evra told Sky Sports.
"I think he should say sorry to all of his team-mates because Arsenal had a plan and everything changed after that.
"Alioski deserves an Oscar because he plays it so well. If I was the coach of Leeds, I would be so happy with Alioski, but come on, it looked like he broke his nose, but he didn’t have anything.
"Really silly from Pepe. When you’re not playing a lot, and Arteta gives you a chance, don’t cry when you’re not playing the next game.”
Now Leeds have moved to hit back at the continuing fallout from the incident.
"The vile abuse directed at Ezgjan Alioski and Nicolas Pepe on social media after yesterday’s Premier League game with Arsenal will not be tolerated by Leeds United," said the statement.
"We will work closely with the police and the footballing authorities to ensure those responsible are identified and punished."
And Arsenal said in a statement: "We utterly condemn the vile abuse directed at Nicolas Pepe and Ezgjan Alioski on social media following our match against Leeds.
"This is completely unacceptable and we will be working with the police and authorities to do everything we can to trace and prosecute the culprits."
