Leeds United and Andrea Raddrizzani's heartfelt tribute as Diego Maradona dies aged 60

Leeds United have paid tribute to Argentina legend Diego Maradona, who has died, aged 60.

"Artist. Icon. Legend. Rest in peace, Diego Maradona," the club posted in a tweet accompanied by an image of Maradona kissing the World Cup following his country's 1986 victory.

Maradona, one of the greatest players to ever play the game, suffered a heart attack in his Buenos Aires home and had undergone successful surgery on a brain blood clot earlier this month.

The Argentine FA confirmed the sad news with a short statement on Twitter.

"The Argentine Football Association, through its President Claudio Tapia, expresses its deepest sorrow for the death of our legend, Diego Armando Maradona," it read.

Maradona is remembered in England for the infamous World Cup quarter-final against Argentina in 1986, in which Maradona scored the opening goal with his hand - forever being dubbed the 'Hand of God' - before then scoring a spectacular solo goal in which he dribbled from the half-way line, beat numerous defenders and then fired into the rood of the net.

Argentina would go on to lift the iconic trophy for the second time in their history in Mexico and haven't won the tournament since.

Maradona also near single handedly dragged Napoli to the only Serie A title wins in their history in 1987 and 1990, as well as winning the Copa Italia and the UEFA Cup.

He had stints at Argentinos Juniors, Boca Juniors, Barcelona, Sevilla and Newels Old Boys, joining the club in 1993, a year after Marcelo Bielsa left.

After retiring Maradona went into management and led his country to the 2010 World Cup in South America.

Leeds United chairman Andrea Radrizzani also paid tribute on social media: "Such a dark day. RIP hero. My heart is broken , you are my football world and always will be."
