Leeds United aim Super League dig at Liverpool with 'Merseyside Reds' tweet

Leeds United aimed a dig at Liverpool’s involvement in the European Super League shortly after last night’s game.

Monday would normally have been focused solely on the Premier League clash at Elland Road, but the fixture took a back seat.

News of a Super League surfaced on Sunday and continued into the following day, dominating the headlines in all corners of football.

The Reds have agreed to be one of 12 founding members of the competition, along with five other English clubs.

Liverpool players were met with protests from both Reds fans and Leeds supporters outside Elland Road as they arrived on Monday evening prior to kick-off.

The game would finish 1-1, with Diego Llorente cancelling out Sadio Mane’s first-half opener.

When the final whistle was blown, Leeds posted their traditional full-time scoreline but this time it had a twist.

“FULL TIME: #LUFC hold Super League side Merseyside Reds to a 1-1 draw after late Llorente equaliser.”

It’s not clear whether the post was meant in a serious way, or just as a joke.

The decision made by Liverpool to take part in the Super League has been met with widespread animosity, with the overwhelming majority of people in the game seemingly against the concept.
