Leeds United 0-1 Histon - where are the infamous team that lost FA Cup clash on this day?

Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds United might find themselves in a difficult situation this season, as they are struggling to break away from the relegation places after 13 games of the season.

However, on this day in 2008, the Whites found themselves in a far worse state and in fact, perhaps the lowest they've ever been.

Leeds had started the season promisingly under Gary McAllister and looked to be in the hunt for automatic promotion from League One, which was their goal. However, form alarmingly fell away with the fateful day they met Histon in the FA Cup seemingly one of the catalysts for desperate league form which saw the former Leeds midfielder sacked as manager.

McAllister brought his side to Impington to face what was at the time a Conference side. Leeds put out a changed team for the second round of the cup, but it still featured several of the preferred first XI and it was a source of great embarrassment as the Whites fell to a 1-0 loss, with Histon's goal scored by a postman.

Here is the Leeds line-up from that fateful day, along with where the players ended up in their careers.

Goalkeeper - David Lucas

David Lucas was the second choice goalkeeper over the course of the season, with Casper Ankergren playing the majority of games in between the posts.

After leaving Elland Road, he played for Swindon Town, Rochdale, Birmingham City and Fleetwood before retiring. He is now a goalkeeper coach.

Right back - Frazer Richardson

Richardson was a home grown Leeds United player and at one point was hoped to be the long-term successor to Gary Kelly. However, he didn't hit the heights and eventually moved onto Charlton Athletic in 2009. He featured for several more EFL clubs before retiring.

Centre back - Rui Marques

Marques joined the club in 2005, when Leeds were still in the Championship, after a career spent primarily playing in Germany.

He remained at Leeds until 2010 and did not join another professional club after his contract expired.

Centre back - Lubomir Michalik

Michalik came closest to scoring for Leeds against Histon, hitting the post with a header. However, he'd fallen down the pecking order by the time of this game. Richard Naylor was brought to the club in January and he became the first-choice centre back.

Michalik subsequently left Leeds for Carlisle United and still plays in Slovakia at the age of 38.

Left back - Alan Sheehan

Sheehan only managed 11 first-team appearances after he signed permanently for Leeds. He has played for 11 EFL clubs since leaving the Whites and still plays for Oldham as a player coach at 35 years old.

Right midfield - Andrew Hughes

It's fair to say that this was not a position which suited Hughes but he did go on to become a cult-hero for the club as he played a key role at left-back as Simon Grayson finally won promotion with the club in 2010.

He is now a first-team coach and has coached at Crystal Palace, Sheffield United, Huddersfield Town.

Centre midfield - Fabian Delph

Delph was only a teenager at this time and although he played a starring role this season, he was unable to save Leeds against Histon.

He was sold to Aston Villa in the summer and eventually went on to Manchester City, where he won many titles, including the Premier League.

Centre midfield - Jonathan Douglas

Douglas moved to the club in 2006, whilst Leeds were looking for promotion from the Championship. However, he was part of the team which was relegated and moved on from the club before they won promotion from League One.

He spent the majority of the rest of his career at Brentford, making 169 appearances for the club.

Left midfield - Andy Robinson

The former Swansea man was signed to bring creativity to Leeds' attack but he had an unsuccessful period at the club as he played 38 games for the club and only managed 2 goals.

He moved on to Tranmere and eventually finished his career playing in the Welsh top division.

Forward - Robert Snodgrass

Like Hughes, Snodgrass was to go on to become a hero for the club, playing a key role in the promotion season, as well as captaining the club in the Championship.

He was eventually sold to Norwich after realising he wouldn't achieve his goal of playing in the Premier League if he stayed at the Whites. He is now playing for West Bromwich Albion.

Luciano Becchio

Although Becchio was unable to score at Histon, his time at Elland Road was filled with goals as he scored 87 in 221 appearances for Leeds.

When Leeds were promoted to the Championship, Becchio hit 20 goals as Leeds just missed out on a play-off place. However, he also left for Norwich in 2013 as there appeared to be issues between himself and manager at the time, Neil Warnock.

Unfortunately for Becchio, he was unable to ever rediscover the same form away from Leeds and retired in 2017.
