Leeds train station: Chaotic scenes after 'person on bridge' blocks all lines

All lines at Leeds train station have been blocked over concerns for a person on a bridge.

There are currently no trains operating in or out of the station and disruption is expected until at least 12pm.

All services are currently delayed or cancelled.

LeedsLive reports a train guard has told passengers "there are no trains arriving or departing the stations as there are concerns about someone on a bridge".

Hudreds of people are waiting at the station but no one is allowed onto the platforms.

Passengers on trains have also been affected with one passenger telling of how his train has been stuck outside Leeds for over an hour.

Oli Trenham was on his commute to Wakefield when the Northern train came to a halt.

Northern tweeted: "Due to trespassers on the railway at Leeds all lines are blocked."

In a statement, they said services had been disrupted due to a "trespass incident" and added that there is no information about when services will return to normal.

"The emergency services are on site but the person has not yet been removed.

"Due to the amount of services in and out of Leeds disruption is expected to continue for some time."

Passengers at the station have tweeted they have been told to find another form of transport.

National Rail has released information about tickets being accepted on alternative services.

They statement added: "Network Rail report that there is a trespasser at Leeds station who is on the west end footbridge over Leeds station.

"Network Rail and the British Transport Police have taken the decision to switch off the overhead electric wires whilst they assist the trespasser to safety."

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “At 7.03am today (30/05) officers were called to Leeds station following the concern for the welfare of a person in a precarious position.

“Officers are on scene and are working to bring this incident to a safe resolution as soon as possible.

"Rail services are disrupted and passengers are advised to check with National Rail Enquiries before travelling.”

Police later said the incident had been 'resolved' but there was still delays of up to three hours.
