Traffic wardens have gone back to work, Leeds City Council has revealed.
Despite not publicly announcing the changes, the authority has now confirmed ticketing restarted last week on illegally-parked vehicles, claiming the problem was beginning to affect traffic flow.
However, it added that all council-managed car parks in the city will still be free to use.
Following the announcement of the lockdown in March, Leeds City Council said it was suspending all parking charges.
But a spokesman said today: “Last month, the council announced that all council-managed car parks and on-street parking bays in Leeds will be free to use until further notice, in light of the coronavirus pandemic. This is still the case, with priority being given to NHS and social work staff and other key workers.
“Whilst the majority of drivers are continuing to park appropriately, there have been some instances where parking on yellow lines has created issues in terms of traffic flow, public safety and access, especially in the city centre.
“As a response to this, from last week, Leeds City Council parking officers have been issuing parking penalties to vehicles parked illegally.
“We are working with staff and the public to make sure we observe social distancing and return to work safely.”
