Good morning, Leeds.

Today. I'll be looking at the weekend's Leeds Pride event, Leeds councillor Gerry Harper guest blogs on how Asbos were vital to one local community, and I report on an innovative pilot scheme in South Leeds - and there's news of a way you can help the Guardian map local development!

Here's what's making Leeds tick today

Powerful elected mayors are set to be imposed on Leeds and Wakefield without voters having a say first, reports the YEP.

Biffa's bid to build an incinerator at the old Skelton Grange Power Station comes under scrutiny by the East Leeds-based No2Incinerator campaign, who say it's time to regenerate their community, not build more incinerators. They write on their blog:

"The people here feel that they have done more than their share of bearing the burden of cleaning up the waste of this city and have seen nothing in return and it is time for someone else to carry the load for a while."

There are some pictures of the Leeds Asian Fesitval, which attracted thousands of people to Roundhay Park yesterday, over at the BBC.

People who paid thousands of pounds in deposits for apartments in the prestigious Lumiere building in Leeds have met to discuss bringing legal action against the developers, reports Leeds Today. There is also a report on the introduction of a new bazaar which features Asian food, culture and fashion at Leeds Kirkgate Market.

The number of children excluded from Leeds schools fell by 14% last year, according to figures, reports BBC Leeds. Meanwhile, The Yorkshire Post reports the number of Leeds children classed as obese has risen to over 20 per cent, according to new figures.

A row of empty shops is to be transformed into 22 environmentally friendly homes for people in Morley.
