Leeds today: Armley supermarket, folding for peace and a city reborn

Good morning, Leeds!

Today I'll be looking at licensing and safety issues on New Briggate, an unconference which will look at the subject of 'what is Leeds?', a slideshow of pictures of a community clean-up of the towpath outside the Royal Armouries and a charity football match in memory of a Leeds anti-gun and knife campaigner.

MP congratulates Bramhope speed campaigners

Leeds North West MP Greg Mulholland has written to residents on Moorland Road and Occupation Lane in Bramhope, welcoming the move to reduce the speed limit to 30mph.

Mulholland, who had helped lead the campaign to have the previous speed limit reduced has congratulated the campaigners on their victory.

The campaign to have the speed limit reduced involved Mulholland at one point replacing the unrestricted speed limit signs in use at the time with special 30mph signs made by local children.

The MP said:

"I wholeheartedly welcome this move to finally replace the unrestricted speed limit on Moorland Road with a far more sensible 30 mph limit. It was simply nonsensical to have an unrestricted speed limit on a residential street where kids were at risk. Now that progress has been made I hope residents will feel safer on the roads in question."
