Leeds to be hit by 'severe gales' as Met Office issues yellow weather warning

A yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for Leeds this weekend with strong winds set to batter the city.

The warning is in place for much of the UK with the extreme weather set to roll in during the early hours on Saturday, November 27.

Only London and other parts of the south east are expected to escape the disruptive gales.

It means rail travel in Leeds is likely to be disrupted and roads could also be affected.

According to the Met Office, damage to buildings is also possible while power cuts may occur in some places across the UK.

The weather warning is in place from midnight until 6pm on Saturday.

Commenting on the potential for disruptive weather across the UK this weekend, a spokesperson for the Met Office said: "There is potential for a spell of very windy weather across much of the UK during Saturday.

"It will be cold and unsettled with showers and occasional longer spells of rain and some hill snow at times.

"(It will) often (be) windy, with potential for severe gales in the west on Friday and Saturday."
