Leeds tip and recycling centre opening times over Christmas and New Year 2020

A post-Christmas trip to the tip is something of British ritual following the madness of Christmas Day.

Waste recycling centres in Leeds were forced to close earlier this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, and the new Tier 3 restrictions left many residents wondering what this means for Christmas waste.

There are a limited number of sites opening over the week of Christmas. Leeds City Council is running an online booking system and for most sites, you must book a slot before turning up.

However, the Kirkstall and Seacroft sites are open and accepting rubbish and recycling as normal.

The council has issued a warning that the queues may be long as Covid-19 safety precautions are still in place. It advises to only visit if you really need to.

As sites are particularly busy during this time it is advised to arrive at least an hour before closing time to avoid being turned away.

Don't forget to take your Leeds Resident Permit with you when you visit one of the household waste recycling centres. You could be refused entry if you do not have a permit.

Leeds City Council runs eight Waste Recycling Centres including:

Leeds Waste Recycling Centres Christmas opening times:

  • Open seven days a week - 8am to 4pm.
  • Closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year's Day.
  • The Revive Leeds shop is open 9am to 3.30pm during winter.
  • Kirkstall and Seacroft are the only sites you can turn up without pre-booking a time slot.
