Leeds street in the running to become officially Britain's friendliest

Amazing community spirit and events where more than 40 homes joined in could see a Leeds street named the friendliest in Britain.

Eden Crescent in Kirkstall is competing with nine other streets to be named as Britain’s Friendliest Street after nominating themselves for the In Good Company competition.

Anna Franks, 44, who has lived there for seven years, believes the street should win because of the community spirit shown by the residents during the lockdown.

More than 40 homes on the street got involved in a teddy bear hunt over Easter, where 105 teddies were hidden for families to find.

And one Eden Crescent resident named Olly has raised £5,000 in donations for Trussell Trust by running 100k around the block (130 laps) and children have also been made get well soon cards for an elderly resident who fell over and was taken to the hospital.

Anna, who works in marketing, says at the beginning of the outbreak, they started a WhatsApp group which has grown from having a handful of people to more than 107 contacts.

She said: “I’ve lived on the road for seven years but my husband has lived here all his life and his family still live on the road. It’s very family orientated, we’re not the only ones with family living on the street.

“Before lockdown, we would all see each other in passing, not really connecting, then one of the residents started a WhatsApp group which has created greater community spirit.

“I think it’s just interesting, it has always been a really lovely and its always been a nice road to live.

“It would be amazing and everyone would be pleased if we were to win.”
