And the wild weather is set to continue tomorrow when Storm Eunice hits.

The Met Office is warning the second storm this week will bring heavy snow and strong winds across Yorkshire and the North of England.

The forecaster says some areas will see 5cm of snow, with as much as 30cm higher over the hills.

People are being warned of travel delays and cancellations affecting air and rail travel, while rural communities could be temporarily cut off and homes could lose power.

The Met Office reports: “Snow, heavy in places, is likely to develop on the northern side of Storm Eunice as it moves across the UK on Friday. There is still uncertainty in the track of Storm Eunice and not all areas within the warning area are expected to see snow.

“However, some places may see around 5 cm of snow at low levels away from coasts. Accumulations are expected to be significantly higher over hills though with 10-20 cm perhaps up to 30 cm possible above around 250 metres. Strong winds occurring at the same time may lead to very poor visibility, blizzard conditions and drifting of lying snow.”

In the next 24 hours, rain is to be expected in Leeds throughout the day before the evening turns partly cloudy.

Across Yorkshire on Friday it will be largely cloudy with spells of rain or snow, with 'blizzard conditions' likely and strong winds developing in the afternoon and a maximum temperature of 6 °C.”

Leeds is set for a day of heavy rain, according to the current hour-by-hour forecast, but the yellow warning for snow remains in place.
