Leeds station disruption expected until 'end of the day' with hour delays on Northern and TransPennine Express

Commuters are being told to expect more delays and cancellations at Leeds station this evening.

All lines at the station have reopened after they were closed for over four hours on Thursday, May 30, while British Transport Police rescued a man who, they say, was in 'a precarious position'.

But the disruption has not cleared yet, and National Rail is telling Northern and TransPennine Express passengers their services will 'continue to be severely disrupted with delays of up to 30 minutes and some cancellations'.

It also says trains are 'expected to remain disrupted until the end of the day'.

However, CrossCountry and LNER services are now running as normal, with no further cancellations expected.

This morning's closure caused chaos. Thousands of passengers were stranded, as hundreds of services were cancelled or delayed for several hours, and people were told to avoid Leeds station and find other forms of travel.

Some passengers spent hours waiting on trains that were brought to a halt outside the station.

The man was brought to safety by police at around 9.45am and he is being detained under the Mental Health Act.
