Leeds stars given a pay rise amid ongoing wage cut saga as gesture of goodwill

Leeds United will give their players a two percent bonus as a way of saying thank you for agreeing to defer their wages amid the coronavirus crisis.

Marcelo Bielsa's side were sitting at the top of the Championship when the season was suspended, and were seven points clear of third place Fulham in the race for automatic promotion.

Their squad have a number of players on big wages, such as striker Patrick Bamford, who is thought to earn around £35,000-a-week, but the squad acted quickly to agree to defer their salaries to help prevent the club getting in too much financial trouble while there is no football on.

And according to the Daily Mail their chairman Andrea Radrizzani has been so impressed with the gesture that he has agreed to paying a bonus, meaning the players will end up being better off when they eventually return to the pitch.

It is a gesture that is thought to have been gratefully received by Leeds' star men, who are desperate to seal promotion to ensure the club are playing Premier League football next year for the first time since the 2003-2004 season.

Recently Radrizzani admitted a deal could be struck with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi in the future.

The pair are known to have a good relationship and the Qatari money has transformed PSG into a global powerhouse.

He told Gianluca Di Marzio : "These are rumours that have been ongoing for more than a year now. What is true is that we have a great relationship on a personal level.

"There's a desire to do something together maybe even in football but there's nothing concrete at this time

"In the last few weeks everything took a back seat. My desire to have a great Leeds that is a protagonist in the Premier League and to do so we will need partners on top of the San Francisco 49ers, we'll evaluate this when we are in that league"
