Leeds star Raphinha sent Liverpool transfer advice by Brazil legend Rivaldo

Barcelona icon Rivaldo has encouraged Leeds winger Raphinha to pursue a move to Liverpool and play under Jurgen Klopp.

The Brazil international, 24, has recently been linked with the Anfield club after a stellar start to his Premier League career.

Speaking to Betfair, Rivaldo said: "Raphinha performed well on his debut for Brazil, but he was already shining in the Premier League with Leeds United and there are rumours of interest from Liverpool.

"If he were to make the move, he may not be a regular starter, but I’m sure it would be a big step in his career since it would allow him to compete for titles and play in the Champions League which could be crucial for more call ups into the Brazilian national team."

Raphinha has scored nine goals in 37 Premier League appearances since joining Leeds in October 2020, making his debut for Brazil 12 months later.

He produced an outstanding display in his country's recent World Cup qualifier against Uruguay, scoring twice to secure a comfortable 4-1 victory.

Raphinha's agent, former Barcelona and Chelsea star Deco, has claimed Liverpool made approaches for him during the recent summer transfer window.

Deco said: "Raphinha became an important player in the Premier League, the club knows he has grown and things will happen naturally.

"He is young, he has many challenges ahead, there are certainly several clubs that like him, and Liverpool do like him, there were approaches, but nothing official.

"Leeds wanted to keep him for another season. Raphinha has a market, and Leeds have high expectations, it was never a project in a hurry.

"He has ambitions to play at a higher level despite Leeds being in the Premier League. But this is not the time and his focus, things will happen naturally.

"He has a three-year contract, but it’s not the contract that defines the length of stay or prevents a transfer.

"Leeds are aware, they’ll want to make an important sale, and Raphinha will end up growing in his career."

Rivaldo, then aged 25, made a similar move from Deportivo La Coruna to Barcelona in 1997 and went on to win two La Liga titles, the Spanish Cup and Uefa Super Cup during his time at the Nou Camp.

He also became a regular for Brazil, helping them win the World Cup in 2002, and later lifted the Champions League with AC Milan.

Rivaldo added: "He has the quality to player for a bigger club. He is playing excellent football and a player always wants more and stronger challenges, so he would benefit from a transfer."

Liverpool have also been linked with Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele, who is out of contract in the summer, in recent weeks.
