Leeds shopworker left with significant injuries after terrifying machete attack by masked robbers

A Leeds shopworker has been left with a “significant injury” after he was attacked with a machete during a terrifying armed robbery.

Yesterday (Monday) at 8.50pm, the victim was working in Halton’s Top Store, in Selby Road, when two men wearing balaclavas entered the store and started taking items.

The 26-year-old approached the men and one of the suspects brought out a machete and hit him on the back.

He was then attacked with the machete again and received a serious injury to his hand that required surgery, says West Yorkshire Police.

The force is now asking anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the suspects running from the scene to come forward.

Detective Inspector Dan Bates, of Leeds District CID, said: “The victim has received a significant injury during this incident and is continuing to receive treatment in hospital.

“We are carrying out extensive enquiries to identify those responsible and would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or who saw the suspects running off from the scene.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Leeds District CID via 101 quoting crime reference 13210427933 or online.

Information can be given anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
