Leeds sees huge rise of newly diagnosed coronavirus cases as Yorkshire cases increase by 331

Leeds has seen the biggest surge of newly diagnosed cases of coronavirus in Yorkshire in the last 24 hours.

Figures released by the Government have revealed that 331 new confirmed coronavirus cases have been recorded in Yorkshire in the last 24 hours.

In Leeds 89 new cases were diagnosed followed by 70 cases in Bradford and 43 in Kirklees .

The only places which saw no rise of cases in Yorkshire was Sheffield which was added on the Government's Covid-19 watch list last week.

Earlier today (Monday), Leeds City Council warned cases in the city were "still high" with 6.2 per cent of people testing positive for the virus.

In the UK, 2,621 new cases were diagnosed in the last 24 hours and this news comes as the Government’s rule of six comes into place today.

The law prevents groups of six meeting with exemptions made for schools, workplaces, weddings and more.

Confirmed cases of coronavirus in Yorkshire over the past 24 hours:

  • Leeds - was 5,427 now 5,516 (+89)

  • Wakefield - was 2,268 now 2,285 (+17)

  • North Yorkshire - was 3,044 now 3,075 (+35)

  • Sheffield - still 113

  • Barnsley - was 2,251 now 2,257 (+6)

  • Bradford - was 7,069 now 7,139 (+70)

  • Calderdale - was 1,365 now 1,384 (+19)

  • Rotherham - was 2,324 now 2,348 (+24)

  • Kirklees - was 3,419 now 3,462 (+43)

  • York - was 1,044 now 1,051 (+7)

  • Doncaster - was 2,154 now 2,163 (+9)

  • East Yorkshire - was 1,784 now 1,795 (+11)

  • Hull - was 1,666 now 1,667 (+1)
