Leeds sees huge number of new coronavirus cases in just one day

Leeds has recorded the second-highest number of newly confirmed coronavirus cases across Yorkshire.

The city has seen a further 96 cases confirmed, according to NHS England.

Bradford was the worst hit in Yorkshire with 110 people diagnosed with the virus in 24 hours.

York, Hull, East Yorkshire and Barnsley were the only places with less than 20.

It news comes after scientists warned there could be as many as 50,000 cases a day by mid-October if action to stop the spread wasn't taken now.

There were 4,368 new cases across the whole of the UK, which is the highest number of cases recorded since May.
