Leeds have signed the USA midfielder Tyler Adams from RB Leipzig on a five-year deal for a fee that could reach £20m with add-ons and followed that by buying the Colombia winger Luís Sinisterra from Feyenoord.

The deal for Sinisterra is worth €25m (£22.3m) plus add-ons and has taken Leeds’s summer spend to more than £90m, although £45m was recouped this week through the sale of Kalvin Phillips to Manchester City.

Adams and Sinisterra are both 23 and the oldest of their six signings is Marc Roca at 25. Adams is reunited with the Leeds head coach, Jesse Marsch, after playing under him at New York Red Bulls and Leipzig.

Adams made 38 appearances for Leipzig last season, including five in the Champions League. He made his Major League Soccer debut for New York Red Bulls as a teenager under Marsch in 2016 and moved to Europe in 2019 with Leipzig, where Marsch was assistant to Ralf Rangnick before taking on the senior role.

Adams, who made 103 appearances for Leipzig and has 29 caps, is the third player to team back up with Marsch at Elland Road. The attacking midfielder Brenden Aaronson – also a US international – and right-back Rasmus Kristensen have arrived from another of Marsch’s former clubs, Red Bull Salzburg. Roca has joined from Bayern Munich and the 18-year-old Darko Gyabi from Manchester City.

Sinisterra scored 23 goals and made 14 assists in 49 appearances for Feyenoord last season and is a likely replacement for Raphinha. Chelsea agreed a £55m fee for Raphinha last week, only for the Brazil winger to indicate that his preference is to join Barcelona. It remains to be seen whether Barça, who have been engulfed by a major financial crisis, can agree a fee.
