Leeds schoolboy thought he would die as he was caught in rip tide

A Leeds schoolboy has spoken out about the moment that he was caught up in a rip tide and he thought he would die.

Ravi, who lives in Leeds, told his story on This Morning from his home and chatted to hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes about his terrifying experience.

He said that at one point he thought to himself that he "might die" and feared that it would be the last day of his life as the tide took him.

Ruth asked him what was going through his mind at the time that the rip tide took him.

Ravi said: "I was like is this really happening, am I really going to die?

"Is this the last day of my life?"

However, Ravi said he managed to save himself as he remembered a technique to use when you get into trouble in water.

He said: "Basically I used a technique called Float to Live.

"Basically like you are on your back making a starfish shape and you can use that to float on top of the water."

It comes after three people have died in open water tragedies in Yorkshire in the past three days.

Since Sunday, three people have drowned in lakes and canals across the county as hot temperatures swept across the UK.

A 15-year-old boy died last night, Tuesday, after getting into difficulty in Knottingley canal.

A man in his 20s also died after getting into trouble in the lake at Crookes Valley Park and Sunday and a mans body was found in the water at Pugneys Country Park on Monday.

Officials are urging people to avoid swimming in open water while the hot weather continues.
