Leeds school kids send adorable messages to care home residents after visits cancelled

Some kind-hearted kids in Leeds have been sending colourful cards to care home residents to keep their spirits up after their visits were cancelled.

Pupils at Manor Wood Primary had been visiting Carr Croft Care Home every week to speak to the residents until these trips were cancelled due concerns about the coronavirus pandemic.

But the children have not forgotten about their elderly friends and every Friday they send cards filled with kind messages and drawings to keep their spirits up.

Katie Lamb, restorative practice lead at the school, and Jodie Boucher, manager of the care home, teamed up to organise the postal correspondence and they now have plans for Facetime sessions.

Ms Lamb said: "The children can make anything they like. We are making packages for the care home so we'll include anything that makes them smile.

"It's important to show the children that a little bit of kindness goes a long way.

"It's a really valuable life lesson for them, but we also want to maintain relationships with them. Some of them have dementia and we are trying to keep their memories of the children alive."

Ms Lamb believes the primary school in Moortown will close in the coming weeks, but they will continue writing to their friends at the care home.
