School draws up coronavirus emergency 'crisis plan' in Leeds

A Seacroft primary school has revealed the emergency measures that will be put in place should it need to close due to coronavirus.

Parklands Primary School headteacher, Chris Dyson, tweeted the school's 'crises plan' yesterday but said that he hopes it won't need to be put into action.

The plan includes twice weekly home visits and offer of food support for all families.

In a tweet announcing the plan, Chris said: "Here is our @ParklandsLeeds #CrisesPlan in the event of a school closure. Hopefully it wont come to it. The children will be fed daily and food hampers provided. EVERYCHILD will be spoken to and have work set by their teachers. Together we will be strong".

Parklands Primary School is in one of Leeds' most deprived areas, but has an OFSTED rating of 'outstanding' and Chris is credited with having turned the school around.

With a lot of students who come from vulnerable families, the Parklands emergency plan insists that all families receive personal visits from a member of staff twice a week, with "all children seen" so that any welfare issues can be flagged up.

In order to ease any financial burden that a school closure might have on families, the school also plans to assist with food deliveries that will be provided by their catering service free of charge.

The printed plan, uploaded to Twitter by Chris, states: "Food will be provided in hampers, hopefully, allowing families to have basic food items and reduce the financial pressure."

The plan also states that food bank information will be provided, if necessary and that student-learning can continue from home.
