Leeds rubbish dumper's shame caught on CCTV in Harehills after she refused to pay £100 fine

A Leeds woman refused to pay a £100 fine after she was caught fly-tipping.

She would later plead guilty and now has a criminal record, paying over three times the original fine and now has a criminal record.

Maria Stoica, from Harehills, was caught dumping a mattress on Elford Grove.

After being caught red-handed, she was offered a £100 fine, which would mean that this would be the end of proceedings.

However, she refused.

Leeds City Council would later take the woman to court after she continued to refuse to pay, as she would receive a much most costly fine.

A tweet from a Leeds council page read: "Maria Stoica of Harehills was caught on CCTV dumping a mattress on Elford Grove, LS8. She was offered a £100 Fine but refused to pay. She later pled guilty to fly tipping & now has a criminal record & £352 in fines & court costs."

Fly-tipping, the dumping of liquid or solid waste on land or in water, is illegal across the UK.
