Leeds Rhinos Women win Super League Grand Final to claim double

Leeds Rhinos Women were crowned Super League Champions after they came from behind to claim a hard-fought win over Castleford Tigers.

They completed an impressive double by winning 20-12 at St Helens' Totally Wicked Stadium, to add the league title to the Challenge Cup they won back in July.

Adam Cuthbertson’s side, who lost in last year's final, conceded two tries within the first six minutes and were trailing 8-4 at half time, but a Fran Goldthorp double and a try from Ellie Frain in the second half gave the Rhinos a comfortable lead.

Kelsey Gentles reduced the deficit when she crossed the line in the 74th minute, but the Rhinos hung on.

Cas had enjoyed an impressive run in 2019 and claimed the League Leaders' Shield, but it is the second time they have lost to Leeds in a major final this season, after they were beaten 16-10 in July's Challenge Cup Final.

Speaking after the match, Cuthbertson said: "There was just so much character from the girls; they've got this unbelievable ability to never give in, never give up.

"They truly showed a lot of character tonight, which shone through, especially in that second half when we started kicking in corners and defending our own line really well.

"I'm just so glad for them, they've worked so hard for this and they deserve every bit of it."
