Leeds Rhinos suffer major blow as Zane Tetevano discovers disciplinary fate

Leeds Rhinos forward Zane Tetevano has been suspended for four matches following his dismissal for a late tackle in the Challenge Cup defeat by St Helens.

Tetevano was shown the first red card of his career in the 44th minute of last Saturday’s third-round tie at the Totally Wicked Stadium for the challenge on Saints half-back Theo Fages.

He was charged by the Rugby Football League’s match review panel with a grade D offence of striking and at a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday evening pleaded guilty but challenged the grading.

The panel decided that the grading was correct and issued a four-match suspension, along with a £500 fine.

Tetevano will therefore miss Leeds' games against Wigan Warriors, Hull KR, Huddersfield Giants and Wakefield Trinity.

He has the option to appeal against the decision.

A tribunal dismissed an appeal by Bradford Bulls forward George Flanagan against his 10-match ban for attacking an opponent’s testicles during the Challenge Cup tie with Featherstone Rovers.

Four other players have accepted match review panel decisions following incidents in the cup.

Warrington Wolves winger Tom Lineham will serve a three-match suspension for a grade C offence of striking off the ball during his side’s 32-8 win over Swinton Lions on Sunday.

Swinton second-rower Deane Meadows has been given a one-game ban for a shoulder charge in the same match.

Wigan prop Liam Byrne and Wakefield back-rower Kelepi Tanginoa were both given one-match suspensions.
