Leeds Rhinos suffer hellacious blow as three stars injured in first-half

Leeds Rhinos face an anxious wait after star centre Harry Newman was helped from the field during their game with St Helens. The youngster, whose career has been riddled with injuries, appeared in agony as he was assisted from the field after an awkward-looking tackle.

Newman was brought down by two Saints defenders and instantly screamed as he hit the deck, looking towards the bench. The Rhinos medical team took little time to rule him out and help him from the field. It was confirmed that Newman had suffered a hamstring injury, a grim update given his long history with similar issues.

Sky Sports' pitchside reporter said Newman was 'distraught' as he was ushered down the tunnel to receive further treatment. It's a serious concern for Leeds and Newman, who has been plagued by injuries in the early stages of his career. Serious leg and hamstring injuries have kept him off the field for long periods. He was in tears as he left the field.

It was part of a nightmare 30 minutes for Leeds, who suffered FOUR injuries in the opening stages. Aidan Sezer had been taken off with a groin injury in the opening four minutes before Sam Walters was withdrawn for a HIA.

Then minutes after Newman's withdrawal, Morgan Gannon also had to be carried from the pitch after a nasty-looking ankle injury. He was seen after the break with a moon boot on. Walters passed his assessment but it meant the Rhinos were down to just one fit sub 32 minutes into the match. Leeds were 12-4 up at the time.

Rohan Smith will be asked for an update after the game, but with the likes of Blake Austin, Sam Lisone and David Fusitu'a already in the treatment room, it could be a costly evening for the Headingley club. Sezer's withdrawal had seen Richie Myler partner Morgan Gannon in the halves, with Ash Handley moved to fullback.
