Leeds Rhinos star takes unfortunate pictures in good spirit after one-word response

James McDonnell has proven himself to be a brilliant signing for Leeds Rhinos since his move to the club, and he's shown he's got a sense of humour too. The back-rower has cemented himself in the Rhinos side since his move to the club and has arguably been the club's most consistent performer since his move from Wigan Warriors.

He was part of the Leeds side that lost to Leigh Leopards on Friday but was still one of the better performers, making 28 tackles during the defeat. He did, however, have one moment he won't want to look back on after being beaten by in-form Josh Charnley in the first-half as he went on to make a break down field.

Unfortunately for McDonnell, his former team-mate, has thrown it in his face, after posting pictures of the incident in question. McDonnell and Charnley spent a short period together at LSV last year and the latter was keen to post about his side's victory after the win.

Posting on Instagram, Charnley published three pictures, two of which show him putting McDonnell on the floor before breaking clear. In the caption, Charnley said: "Great team performance last night against Leeds, Good way going into the break with a Win the fans again was class. LSV was pumping."

Making light of the situation, McDonnell, who has a 92.8% tackle success rate this season, replied with a simple response: "Why?" Charnley would soon reply, saying: "Sorry boo only pictures of me."

The break didn't come to anything and McDonnell got on with his game after that, though it wasn't enough as the Rhinos suffered a fifth defeat in ten games so far this season.

Rohan Smith has some challenging decisions to make in the back-row after the international break. Morgan Gannon will be back available, but the likes of McDonnell, Zane Tetevano, Rhyse Martin and James Bentley are also in contention. But McDonnell has made himself very difficult to dislodge after his performances so far, scoring three tries in eight games.

The new episode of House of League is out now! Matthew Shaw is joined by Paul Cooke and Joe Appleyard to discuss the season so far and grade every club's campaign.
