Leeds Rhinos star Alex Mellor confirms season-ending injury

Alex Mellor has confirmed his season is over after suffering a serious knee injury.

The Leeds Rhinos back-rower has ruptured his MCL, an injury that will require surgery and will see him sit out the rest of the season.

Thankfully, an MCL tear is not as severe as an ACL, but will still require several months on the sidelines.

Mellor has been a regular for the Rhinos ever since his move from Huddersfield Giants last season, become a mainstay in Richard Agar's side.

Taking to Instagram, the forward said: "Gutted that my season's come to an end with an MCL rupture. RL (Rugby League) wins yet again."

Mellor suffered the injury in the victory over Hull FC. The Rhinos will now rely on the likes of Bodene Thompson, Morgan Gannon and Sam Walters to fill the void left by Mellor, with Rhyse Martin set to continue in the second back-row position.
