Leeds Rhinos send fans into meltdown after 'confirming' Kyle Eastmond's debut - only to correct themselves

Leeds Rhinos have had fans in a frenzy after confirming Kyle Eastmond would be making his debut, only to correct themselves minutes later.

The Rhinos posted their alleged starting lineup on social media, which showed Eastmond to be making his debut in the halves, despite not being named in the initial 21-man squad.

The tweet quickly exploded as excitement went into overdrive, with supporters preparing to see Eastmond return to the 13-man code for the first time in almost a decade, having crossed codes to play rugby union.

But within a minute the Rhinos had deleted the team news, and confusion ensued as people posted screenshots of the now-removed tweet.

After 20 minutes of uncertainty, the Rhinos then posted the team news again, but this time Eastmond's name was nowhere to be seen, with youngster Corey Hall instead in his place.

Eastmond hadn't been named in the initial 21-man squad and head coach Richard Agar confirmed in the week he was likely to make his debut in the Challenge Cup against St Helens next week.

Fans were able to laugh off the Rhinos mishap, with the club's Twitter account also poking fun at themselves.

They tweeted: "Apologies for any confusion with earlier tweet, we promise it wasn’t a late April Fool and will be repeating ‘never trust new technology’ over and over for the rest of the day."

The Rhinos take on Castleford in a battle of two unbeaten sides after one round.

The game kicks off at 3:00, and you can keep up to date with the entire game through our live matchday blog here.
