Leeds Rhinos' pre-season plans for David Fusitu'a and Matt Prior revealed with pair to sit out warm-up games

Leeds Rhinos fans will have to wait until the club's final pre-season game before they get to see new star David Fusitu'a in action.

The winger, one of four major signings at Headingley ahead of the new season, has linked up with the Rhinos ahead of the coming campaign.

Fusitu'a arrived later than the rest of his team-mates as he awaited a visa and while he started preparations before linking up with the squad, the Rhinos have made a decision to keep him off the field until their final pre-season game against Hull FC on Sunday, January 30th.

The same can be said of captain Matt Prior. The prop is fully fit and currently training but will not play until Tom Briscoe's testimonial at the end of the month.

"Matty won't play until we play Hull," head coach Richard Agar confirmed.

"At his age and the miles he has on the clock, we're going to give him a top-quality pre-season and trying to punctuate it with games doesn't benefit him.

"He was keen to get a few kilos on and strengthen ahead of the season as that prepares him better, so throwing him into trial games isn't conducive to him on that front. He's experienced enough and knows his way around well enough to be ok with just one game."

On Fusitu'a, Agar added: "It's the same with David, he'll first play in the Hull game. We just want to give him the time he needs to be ready and he'll benefit from a good run out in that game."
