Leeds Rhinos players will pay to play against Castleford in support of Mose Masoe

The players and staff of Leeds Rhinos have thrown their weight behind rugby league's ever-increasing support for Mose Masoe, after pledging to 'pay to play' in their game against Castleford on Friday.

The rugby league community has been asked to purchase a virtual ticket for this weekend's Super League games, which have been dedicated to Masoe as he continues his rehabilitation from a career-ending, life-altering spinal injury suffered last January.

And the Rhinos players will back the cause themselves, by donating £20 to the fund and playing their part in raising as much money as possible to help Masoe ahead of his return to Australia later this year with his partner and their three children.

“Everyone in the game has been touched by Mose’s story over the last year and he has been an inspirational figure," Rhinos captain Luke Gale said.

"We saw first hand at the start of last year how the whole game came together to support one of our own in Rob Burrow and I know this will be no different for Mose. When we spoke about it as a group, all the players and staff were on board straight away and I hope Leeds fans can join in to raise as much money as possible to support Mose and his young family.”

To purchase a virtual ticket, fans can text 70085 with their chosen donation; 5MOSE to donate £5, 10MOSE for £10, 15MOSE for £15 and 20MOSE to donate £20. All proceeds go to the Mose Masoe Foundation, which has been created to not only support Masoe, but other players whose lives are changed forever by serious spinal injuries.

Super League is aiming to have a 'virtual sell-out' for this weekend's games, which begin on Thursday night when Wigan take on Wakefield, before two of Masoe's former clubs, St Helens and Hull Kingston Rovers, do battle.
