Leeds Rhinos linked with St Helens ace James Bentley

Leeds Rhinos have been linked with a move for St Helens and Ireland forward James Bentley.

According to League Express, the Rhinos are plotting a move for the back-rower, who is off-contract at the end of the season.

Bentley, 23, has emerged as one of the competition's top forwards in the last year, producing a number of top performances for Saints as they marched to back-to-back Grand Finals, coupled with an unbeaten start to the current campaign.

He has suffered a setback after a nasty leg break in Saints' win over Leigh, which will rule him out for the majority of the season.

But that isn't likely to put off several clubs, who are now free to engage in negotiations with the star.

Leeds aren't likely to be majorly active heading into 2022, with two or three additions expected.

Their interest in Bentley is likely to hinge on the future of Rhyse Martin, the goal-kicking back-rower who is also off-contract at the end of the year.

Leeds have spent the year tying down their existing players, such as Ash Handley, Kruise Leeming and Liam Sutcliffe.

Nine remain off-contract, including Martin, Konrad Hurrell and Matt Prior.

Bentley burst onto the scene in the Championship with Bradford Bulls which saw him make the move to Saints.

He has made 46 appearances in the red vee since his move to the club.
