Leeds Rhinos injury update as Rohan Smith counts the cost of Hull KR victory

Leeds Rhinos face a nervous wait to discover the extent of injuries picked up by Harry Newman, Bodene Thompson and Cameron Smith during the club's victory over Hull KR.

The Rhinos took a huge stride towards the play-offs with a 28-20 win over the Robins, but are now facing the prospect of even more selection issues after the trio were all forced from the field. Newman's injury, a reoccurrence of the hamstring injury that has twice kept him out this season, will be the most concerning given his importance to the side.

But both Smith and Thompson were forced to leave the ground during the game to be taken to hospital with the pair travelling to Pinderfields Hospital, leaving Smith facing more selection headaches.

Providing an update on the trio, Smith said: They're on the way to hospital the be assessed. "Cameron got a thumb injury that may need some work on it tonight I don't know timeframes, they can do some pretty special things so let's see. Bodene has a rib situation and he's one of the toughest blokes I've come across. He was getting ready to try and come back on but the pain was going through the roof so we weren't going to muck around with that one.

"Harry has done a hamstring. I actually didn't ask (if it's the same) it's not that important, if it's a hamstring it's bad news. He's definitely very disappointed. He's put a lot of work into his body over this period of time and he's looking strong and fit. He's playing both sides of the game at a very high level and we're all disappointed. We'll wait and see what the verdict of the scan is and hopefully it's something he can come back from this year.

Leeds were dealt another injury blow before the game after James Bentley was unable to feature following an ankle injury sustained in last week's win over Salford Red Devils.

"He battled through the backend of last week, we did take him off and it settled OK but only until we did an opposed session on Wednesday and he pulled up a little grumpy from that. He's a tough customer but he's been playing busted and he couldn't push off his foot this morning. We'll see how that one pulls up this week."
