Leeds Rhinos forward King Vuniyayawa opens up on Covid-19 scare

King Vuniyayawa has revealed the mental turmoil he faced after being forced into isolation due to Covid.

The Leeds Rhinos forward was one of several players who tested positive for the virus at the club, which had resulted in the training base being shut down and their past two games called off.

Like some of his team-mates, Vuniyayawa has now returned to camp after overcoming the protocols required and is in contention to play on Sunday when the Rhinos travel to face Salford.

But the Fijian admitted the virus had taken its toll on him, but more mentally than physically.

"It was quite tough, it was the first time I experienced Covid," he said.

"It wasn't something I expected. It didn't really hit me quite as hard but it's still pretty dangerous, just for how contagious it is.

"I had to isolate for ten days and that was quite tough when it's something you really love doing. It hit me pretty hard mentally and it's certainly something I'll remember.

"I'd say to everyone to be really careful out there as well. I'm back out and training today and so glad to be out of that isolation period."

Leeds are hopeful that more of his team-mates will have passed the required measures to play at the weekend, in what will be Leeds' first game in four weeks.
