Leeds Rhinos forward hit by two-match ban after pre-season incident

James Donaldson will be unavailable for Leeds Rhinos' next two pre-season games after being charged by the RFL's match review panel.

The forward has been hit with a Grade C dangerous contact charge following an incident in the Rhinos' Boxing Day victory over Wakefield Trinity.

The incident took place in the 40th minute of the match when Donaldson was cited for an indiscretion.

The minutes published explain the incident. It reads: "A defending player makes contact with an opponent after the ball has been released by an opponent in a vulnerable position which causes flexion to the head, neckor spinal column on an attacking player, which poses an unacceptable risk of injury to that player."

Thankfully, for the 30-year-old, he will be able to serve the suspension during pre-season. Any suspensions that run over from the previous season or picked up in warm-up games can have two games shaved off by being made unavailable for pre-season matches.

As a result, the Cumbrian will be free to return to action after sitting out the coming games against Featherstone Rovers and Bradford Bulls. He will be free to return for the final pre-season game against Hull FC, in what is Tom Briscoe's testimonial.

Wakefield forward Yusuf Aydin has been cautioned following a dangerous contact incident during the game, but will not receive a suspension after being pulled up for a late hit.
