Leeds Rhinos confirm 8 first team players and staff are self-isolating over coronavirus fears

Leeds Rhinos director of rugby Kevin Sinfield has confirmed that a total of eight members of the first team squad are currently self-isolating due to coronavirus fears.

The staff and players affected have shown symptoms of Covid-19 and are staying at home. Meanwhile, club chiefs put in place plans for the coming weeks after the RFL and Super League made the call to suspend the season until at least April 3.

Leeds Rhinos shared a clip of a staff meeting held this week. In it Sinfield confirmed that the scholarship, academy and reserves would not train at Kirkstall for two weeks - a measure to protect the first team and "try to remove as much as we can and keep Kirkstall as clean as possible".

The first team will only be allowed access to the gym in the next fortnight, three days per week, to avoid players using public gyms instead. No field sessions will take place in that time also, and anyone with symptoms will be sent home immediately.

Elsewhere, the Premier League and EFL suspended all games until the same date, April 3. It means Leeds United's season and promotion push is now in doubt, with no understanding yet on how the season will be completed.

Leeds United are one of nine clubs that said they wanted the full 2019/20 season to be played out as planned.
