Leeds Rhinos boosted before Super League opener as Warrington Wolves suffer double blow

Warrington Wolves will be without Gil Dudson for their Super League opener with Leeds Rhinos and are sweating on new signing Josh McGuire after he was sent off on debut. The Australia international, one of the club's major signings ahead of the new season, was dismissed for dissent late on in the match, with the club now waiting for the Match Review Panel to determine his punishment.

The Wire defeated Leigh Leopards 22-10 but it came at a cost, with Wales international Dudson breaking his hand during the game. Coach Daryl Powell confirmed he will now miss the game against the Rhinos on February 16th. Coincidentally, Dudson was sent off in his last Super League outing for headbutting in Leeds' win over Catalans Dragons.

On McGuire's red card, Wire head coach Daryl Powell told the Warrington Guardian: “He said something but I’m still not entirely sure what it was. I need to find out more about that one because to be honest, I’ve no idea at the minute. We’ll get to the bottom of that one. We don’t really have any evidence of what’s been said at the moment. We’ll find out during the week.”

Leigh, who defeated Leeds Rhinos in their first pre-season outing, had gone into half-time ahead following tries from former Wolves Josh Charnley and Gareth O'Brien, with Warrington responding through Stefan Ratchford to ensure the deficit was only 10-6 at half-time. However, second half tries from Daryl Clark, Peter Mata'utia and Ben Currie, who was playing in his testimonial match, secured the win.
