Leeds Rhinos and Huddersfield Giants stars called up to England train-on squad

England head coach Shaun Wane has called up four additional players to take part in today's squad session at Leeds Beckett University.

Huddersfield pair Matty English and Jake Wardle join Leeds’ Mikolaj Oledzki and Kruise Leeming in what will be Wane’s first look at his side, as he prepares for the Rugby League World Cup this autumn.

The quartet are yet to make their senior international debuts, after featuring in the England Knights squad previously.

English has featured in all three of the Giants’ games so far this season whilst Wardle’s boot helped them to a 36-18 win over Leigh Centurions in the Challenge Cup at the weekend.

Meanwhile, Leeds pair Leeming and Oledzki have impressed after being an ever-present in the Rhino’s opening three games.

Both sides have fallen to two defeats in their opening three fixtures, however, Wane has seen enough from the four youngsters to give them a chance in the international set-up.

Wane had already named a 35-man squad last week, however, with seven of them being based in Australia, the door has been opened for players to make their case for a place in the side.

The ex-Wigan boss has just 200 days to prepare his squad for the world cup, with only a mid-season international against the Combined Nations All Stars giving him the chance to prepare for the tournament.

Despite taking charge over a year ago, today’s session in Leeds will be the first time Wane has linked up with the side.

The squad now have their chance to make their case for a place in the 17 who will take on Samoa in England’s opening game at St James’ Park in Newcastle.
