Leeds restaurant serving 'unusual and exciting' food rated as the best in the city on TripAdvisor

A relatively new restaurant in Leeds has received rave reviews on Tripadvisor not long after it was recommended by Michelin. Dastaan, located on Otley Road in Adel opened in July of this year, it's a fine-dining Indian restaurant opened by two award-winning chefs.

Chefs Nand Kishor and Sanjay Gour were originally head chefs at the Michelin-starred Gymkhana in Mayfair, this is their second restaurant since opening their first one in Surrey back in 2017. Dastaan is described as a "simple neighbourhood restaurant".

It has a focus on Northern Indian cuisine with a good value and generous portions. Sanjay and Nand stress that flavour is important and the food is made with love and passion.

Dastaan was awarded a Bib Gourmand by the Michelin Guide in its first year and is currently featured in the Michelin Guide, Hardens and the AA Guide. Dastaan Showcases handpicked dishes form from various regions of India.

Customers have rated the restaurant five stars on the review website Tripadvisor, praising the food, service and value. Some have said the flavours are unusual and exciting and it is "Indian with a twist".

There are various menus available, including A La Carte, a lunch time menu and little bar snacks to go with the multitude of cocktails and drinks on offer. The main menu has a range of dishes, including lobster dosa, garlic tiger prawns, duck and Guinea fowl kebabs and tandoori broccoli.

Out of 100 reviews, Dastaan has come out on top as the highest rated restaurant in Leeds according to Tripadvisor reviews. Below are some reviews from customers, including what they thought about some of the bold new flavours at the Adel restaurant.

Bee said: "First time at Dastaan in Leeds & would definitely recommend! Especially enjoyed the bhajiya & amritsari to start, and the the chicken chettinad for main. Interesting flavours and excellent, attentive (but not overbearing) service. Deepak was our server and he was lovely and gave some great advice on the menu. Would come again and will recommend to friends / family."

Emma said: "Indian with a twist. Don’t expect to get your classic curry house dishes this is way better! Everything we had was so fresh and flavourful and made with great quality ingredients. Highly recommend we will definitely be back!"

Dastaan is open Tuesday to Friday from 5pm until 10.30pm and then on Saturday 12.30pm until 2.30pm before it closes until reopening between 5pm and 11pm. On Sundays, the restaurant opens earlier at 11.30 and closes earlier at 10.30pm.
