Leeds records Yorkshire's highest number of Covid-19 cases in latest figures

Leeds has recorded the highest number of Covid cases in Yorkshire in the last day, with 450.

The city has now recorded a total of 16,401 cases since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.

However, despite recording a high number of cases in the last 24 hours, Leeds has seen its infection rate drop in the week between October 8 and October 15.

In that time, the city's infection rate went from 426.8 per 100,000 people to 369.8 per 100,000 people.

Sheffield, Yorkshire's Covid hotspot for the last few weeks, has also seen its infection rate drop in that time.

This comes as tier three talks are continuing across many parts of South and West Yorkshire.

But the government has warned that it will intervene if no agreements are reached.

Newly confirmed cases of coronavirus in Yorkshire over the past 24 hours: 

  • Leeds - was 15,951 now 16,401 (+450)

       
  • Wakefield – was 4,856 now 5,035 (+179)

       
  • North Yorkshire - was 5,853 now 5,970 (+117)

       
  • Sheffield - was 12,624 now 13,018 (+394)

       
  • Barnsley - was 4,269 now 4,475 (+206)

       
  • Bradford - was 13,697 now 14,009 (+312)

       
  • Calderdale - was 3,027 now 3,132 (+105)

       
  • Rotherham - was 4,670 now 4,876 (+206)

       
  • Kirklees - was 7,176 now 7,422 (+246)

       
  • York - was 2,686 now 2,773 (+87)

       
  • Doncaster - was 4,227 now 4,410 (+183)

       
  • East Yorkshire - was 3,236 now 3,321 (+85)

12 deaths recorded in Yorkshire hospitals

There have been another 12 deaths recorded by hospital trusts across Yorkshire in the last day.

These were recorded in York, Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Bradford and Huddersfield.

In England, there have been a further 76 deaths which brings the total number of confirmed, reported deaths in English hospitals to 31,047.

Of those recorded in the last day, patients were aged between 47 and 99 years old and all except one (aged 85) had known underlying health conditions.

Yorkshire infection rates

Sheffield, which has been Yorkshire's Covid hotspot for a number of weeks, has seen its infection rate decrease.

In the week between October 8 and October 15, the city's rate dropped from 496.0 per 100,000 people to 393.4 per 100,000 people.

Leeds also saw its infection rate drop, from 426.8 per 100,000 people to 369.8 per 100,000 people.

Other areas to see a drop in infection rate were Harrogate and Craven, in North Yorkshire.
