Leeds records second highest number of new coronavirus cases in Yorkshire

Leeds has recorded the second-highest number of new coronavirus cases in the latest figures.

Only Kirklees, which is currently under stricter lockdown measures, recorded more new cases in the 24 hours to 4pm on Saturday August 15.

Across Yorkshire, 134 new Covid-19 cases have been confirmed.

While testing has been ramped up in the parts of West Yorkshire currently facing extra restrictions, infection rates have also been increasing, and stricter lockdown measures will continue for another week.

People in Bradford are living with stricter restrictions than anywhere else in Yorkshire.

In the latest figures from Public Helath England, 11 areas of Yorkshire have seen their coronavirus infection rate rise, with the most significant rises in Wakefield, Sheffield, Barnsley, Richmondshire and the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Bradford - was 5,642, now 5,685 (+13)

Calderdale - was 1,046, now 1,056 (+10)

Rotherham - was 2,113, now 2,121 (+8)

Kirklees - was 2,707, now 2,735 (+28)

York - remains 938

Doncaster - was 2,053, now 2,054 (+1)
