Leeds are prepared to activate Illan Meslier’s buy-out clause and keep the young French goalkeeper at Elland Road.
Leeds inserted an option to buy Meslier in the season-long loan deal they agreed with his Ligue 2 side Lorient in August.
Meslier, 20, has impressed and he has kept clean sheets in his two Championship matches since replacing Kiko Casilla, who has been banned for eight games for racist abuse.
The France Under-20 international also stood out on his debut in Leeds’ FA Cup defeat in January.
Leeds feel he has great potential and that he could ultimately succeed Casilla as their No 1.
Leeds fans have taken to Meslier and are urging the club to sign him permanently.
Meslier has been with his home town club Lorient since he was six and has represented France at every level up to the Under-20s.
He received his first Under-21 call-up in November, although he has yet to be capped at that level.
Leeds were impressed with Meslier before he made his senior debut and he saved three penalties for their Under-23s.
Meslier will play the bulk of Leeds’ remaining nine games during the run-in as Marcelo Bielsa’s table toppers bid to end their 16-year exile from the Premier League.
Leeds have supported Casilla since he was found guilty of racially abusing Charlton’s Jonathan Leko, despite the Spaniard’s vehement denials.
Leeds continue to stand by the former Real Madrid goalkeeper and believe him when he says he did not racially abuse Leko.
